War Defined

This lecture will introduce the student to the concept of war and its development throughout history. The lecture covers various theories of a ‘just war’, including religious and secular justifications, with reference to writings from early scholars of international law. A distinction will be established between jus ad bellum and jus in bello. The lecture will also describe various limitations to the conduct of war between parties and why they have developed.
